As a blogger you need every tool and resource to promote your blog in order to increase your visibility, which in turn will inrease your traffic, and it is that traffic that will help you monetize your blog as the saying goes "Build the traffic and money will follow!"

Now one of the ways to promote your blog that seems to make wonders is participating in a Blog Carnival. A Blog Carnival is an event where bloggers that cover a particular topic get together and post a collection of their articles to the blog hosting the blog carnival. The participants usually send links to their articles and posts, and the hosting blog will then publish all the links in a single post.

There are all sorts of carnivals around the web covering different subjects: weekly, monthly, with fixed host, with variable host, standalone editions and so on.

If you manage to participate in a Blog Carnival, at the very minimum you will gain a couple of backlinks and some incoming visitors. Obviously the overall result will depend on the quality and size of the carnival. And to retain your visitors from the blog carnivals you will need to have great content so that your first visitors will want to come back.

This is what successful bblogger Steve Pavlina says about Blog Carnivals:

"In my early traffic-building days, I’d do carnivals submissions once a week, and it helped a great deal in going from nothing to about 50,000 visitors per month."

But the practice has lost some popularity in recent times as more robust avenues to promote your blog become avilable, but you can still find valuable blog carnivals around the Web, or even try to create your own if you wish.

One of the successful blog carnival online today is Blogcarnival.com
